The Street Captain Program is but one tool we can use to increase communication throughout our community. Its concept of each resident having a Street Captain to contact regarding a variety of issues, concerns and suggestions, although simple, is not so easily implemented in a neighborhood of 378 homes. Everyone is busy and time is a valuable commodity. Another valuable commodity is the investment we’ve all made in our individual homes which, in turn, affects our subdivision and neighborhood as a whole.
TrabueWoods Subdivision is comprised of 378 single-family homes originally built by Dominion Homes from 1997 to 2002. It was divided into six (6) sections with four of those further divided into two or more parts (totaling eleven parts in whole). Information sharing, to say the least, is a never ending challenge.
Residents in each section share commonalities like a desire to live in a safe, clean and esthetically pleasing community that maintains its value. The differences experienced by residents in the different sections are equally important to identify. Those who live on the southern and eastern borders (next to I-270) are impacted by the noise of thousands of vehicles traveling past their homes every day. Similarly, residents that live close to the front entrances to our development witness the entry and exit of every car in the development. Those who live on the cul-de-sacs, away from the freeway are not impacted in the same way.
It’s important to have your issues and concerns recognized in order to develop an action plan to remedy the situation. To effectively and successfully implement this program we must have interested residents willing to volunteer time to this project.
