Got this today thought everyone should know to avoid late charges.
Just wanted to tell you all of a change in the law for renewing your licenses, plates and stickers. In the past you had the entire month of your birthday to renew. BUT..........due to the fact the Ohio State Highway Patrol is running in a huge deficit, they changed the law so that you must renew PRIOR to your birthday. They intentionally did not inform anyone so they can attach a $20 late fee to every person with a license in Ohio who doesn't know about the change! Make certain that you forward this email or one of your own to everyone you have in your contact book. > > A late fee of $20 will be assessed to all driver license and vehicle registration renewal transactions if renewed more than seven days beyond the expiration date. > > http://bmv.ohio.gov/fees_for_services.stm >
Several news mediums (Dispatch, TV stations, internet)and the BMV website reported this change to the public in advance. It is not a secret.
Yes, the state is running a deficit but it is NOT hiding anything regarding how it intends to recover those losses. Do I support it, NO. But, it's our duty as taxpayers to stay informed good, bad or indifferent on any matter that pertains to our fiscal responsiblity.
The new late Fee, part of House Bill 2, includes the BMV informing Ohio drivers ninety days prior to their registration renewal of this change...in writing. I got one!
They are also offering a seven day grace period.
Other fees are also going up so please stay informed for your benefit and that of your wallet.
