I know part of our development is in Hilliard schools and part in South-Western. Not sure how that ever came to be though. With yesterday's SWCS levy failure, does anybody know if there's a way for all or part of the SWCS homes in Trabue Woods to move permanently to the Hilliard school district? It seems awfully foolish to have two sets of buses serving one development and we seem to be closer to the Hilliard schools anyways.

Does anybody have any knowledge of this area and care to comment?

Does anybody know how it came to be that some houses in the development ended up in SWCS and others in HCS? Was there a choice at the time? The map on HCS's website seems to show the entire development as being in HCS and Trabue Woods is listed on page 2 of that PDF.

The way that it was explained to my husband and I by the Dominion rep who sold us our house is that the lines were drawn years ago when this whole neighborhood was just woods. A line needed to be drawn and since no one lived here, it didn't pose any problems at the time to do it the way that they did. I also imagine that there were some politics involved where neither district wanted to give up the whole area in case there was ever a chance that they could get taxes from it.

Steve 82,

You need to either talk, email, or write a letter to those 1-3 sources I gave you. That is the avenue you would want to take. I don't know what else you need? My Mother tried to change me from going to Linden Mckinley to Brookhaven years ago and had to go up against the board of education. (That is one of your contacts and it didn't succeed so instead they paid for me to go to a catholic school). Southwest City Schools goes way beyond us and clear up Renner. If you want to find out your answers you will have to contact the sources I listed.

Steve82, This is the message I sent the Board of Education and Joseph Testa. When I hear something I will post on this website and I can also send you a email but I need your email address. Mine is pkjohnson1960@yahoo.com.

I live in the Trabue Woods Development off of Trabue Road. This development was built 13 years ago. 1/2 of our development is Hilliard City Schools and the other half is Southwest City Schools. What determines who is Hilliard and who is Southwest? I am one of the Board Trustee's in neighborhood and several homeowners are asking this question. Plus is there anyway to change it all the Hilliard City School District? As you can tell a lot of homeowners are upset the levy didn't pass and are worried about their children. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

Sincerely,
Pam Johnson

Here is a random odd fact about the school district lines.
Out of the 19 houses on Bluffton Ct...

18 are Hilliard
1 is SW

Makes you kind of wonder if Dominion even bothered to look at those kind of things when laying out the lots.

When we purchased our home in 1999, Dominion told us that it was in the process of being annexed to Hilliard. We were not the only home owner that was told this lie. I think we need to work together as a team & get our subdivision switched.

How many homes are in Trabue Woods? How many are Southwestern & how many are Hilliard?

There are a total of 378 homes in this subdivision. The only thing I know to do is look on Joseph Testa each street and address to find out which is Hilliard City Schools and which is Southwest City Schools. We bought our home in 1997 and were told the same thing. Or maybe if you contacted Hilliard City School District they can help you further with this situation as one of the emails stated above which came from Gary E. Woodward Public Information Officer
Real Estate Division
Franklin County Auditor's Office

Next step is to contact Hilliard City Schools and see if they will increase their district and if not how do we go about doing it?

To all who are wanting to have the school district changes made should remember something. My home is located in the Hilliard School District but I pay Columbus Taxes.

If changes are made to your school district and you are not currently paying taxes for that school district, if you make the change, then your taxes may increase dramatically.

I understand everyones concern about Southwestern City Schools but there is more than just the school district involved when you start asking about changing them.

Here is the information everybody has been asking about. There are 378 homes in here. 153 homes are slated for Southwest City Schools and 225 homes are slated for Hilliard City Schools. If the Southwestern City School levy passes in November are taxes are going up just like the Columbus City levy passed and everyone taxes are going up in here. The levy might pass because a lot of people have to cart their kids to school that never had to before especially high school. There are 67 kids that go to North Franklin that have to walk that never had to walk before. Just thought I would pass along some information. I see both sides of the coin because if I didn't have children I wouldn't want to pay higher taxes.

Hi,

I understand the concerns of the parents who have children in SouthWestern School District, but in asking to have this issue reviewed you might also be opening the door to Hilliard requesting that the homes in Hilliard be switched to the South Western School District. When homes where purchased you were aware of what school district your children would go to in the future, although no-one knows what is going to happen in the future, I think it is unfair to put people who purchased homes in the Hilliard District at risk also. We purposely purchased our home in the area that it was in so our children would be able to go to Hilliard and Hilliard already has an issue with over crowding as we have seen in the past, with Hilliards redistricting. I requested that my children be switched from one Hilliard school to another and was advised that most schools in the district are at capacity. Its awful that the levy didn't pass and hopefully it will pass again in the fall if they decide to bring to the voters again but we should really consider what we are asking because it would be great if Hilliard would permit these children into their district but it could also do the opposite and negatively affect more children.

I doubt if anything is going to happen only if Hilliard or Southwest enforce it. My kids are happy in Southwestern City Schools so I could care less one way or another. I am just relaying information that people want to know. Most likely if they want their children to go to Hilliard City Schools they are going to have to move. I saw my Mom fight this issue once up North and believe me it didn't work even with a lot of other parents involved. I hope this helps you also.
