Trabue Woods Garage Sale and HOA Fundraiser Cookout

10 Jul 2008

The Trabue Woods annual garage sale took place for 3 days the 3rd week in June on the 20th, 21st and 22nd. The announcement signs were displayed at both entrances; helium balloons were sold for a quarter and tied to mailboxes to help identify those homes participating in the sale. The HOA also handed out maps to visitors identifying participants. There were approximately 50 homes involved and selling items from their garage and on Saturday our streets were so congested it was difficult to drive through the neighborhood. Some homeowners reported excellent proceeds and all in all the garage sale was a complete success!

The HOA Fundraiser Cookout also took place on Saturday in our neighborhood park. Again Pam Johnson loaned us her grill where a hot dog or hamburger, chips, desert and drink could be purchased for $1.25. The cookout was initially to run for 2 hours during the afternoon but we were so busy we just keep going. At one point we ran out of food and had to stop for an emergency run to the store but believe it or not people waited until the food arrived! About a third of our customers were visitors checking out the garage sale items and in fact Gregory Johnson took food orders from passing cars and made tip money for himself.

It is a great feeling to be able to write that the remaining 2 thirds of our customers were Trabue Woods home owners who simply came out to support the HOA and fundraiser. They walked from their homes in the heat, some even left their garage sale, stood long periods of time in the hot sun waiting for a hot dog or hamburger that could be cooked at home in a fraction of the time, then paid $5.00 for a hot dog that cost $1.25. What a great group of people we have here! We should all be proud I know I am.

The HOA and I would like to thank homeowner Megan Cottrell and her sister in law Mary Morgan who took over the cooking in the 3rd hour and continued until we ran out of food well into the afternoon. We would also like to thank Megan’s husband Mathew who took over Beth Lintz’s garage sale while she made the emergency food run. The HOA and I would especially like to thank Trish Knapp who helped set up, pass out food and managed the money. You were a life saver!!!
