Spring Fling/Doggie Run

9 Jul 2008

The Trabue Woods HOA sponsored the first Spring Fling/Doggie Run on June 8th which was held in our neighborhood park. The purpose and goal of the event was to spark interest in our Trabue Woods community, build awareness, cohesiveness, and provide an occasion for our homeowners and residents to become acquainted with one another. This was also an opportunity for the Board and Officers to raise badly needed revenue through a silent auction and charging a small price for food.

Several homeowners participated in the community sale displaying home baked goodies and clothing. Jan Schlegler presented a table full of valuable material from the Humane Society with information on their service to our community as well as suggestions on how to be a responsible and caring pet owner. Pam Johnson loaned her grill and the HOA offered a hot dog or hamburger, chips, desert and a drink for $1.25. There weren’t many who participated in the actual “doggie run” but there was a fairly good turn out of dogs and their owners. One homeowner even brought her exotic birds which really fascinated and entertained adults and children alike.

The HOA had canvassed several neighborhood businesses in hopes of gathering items that could be used for HOA fund raising and a Silent Auction. Healthy Pets of Rome Hilliard donated a beautiful basket filled with dog chewies, a water bowl, puppy toys, collar, leash, shampoo, ear cleaner and coupons for a free bath and free boarding for a total value of $130.00. Also up for auction was a Pedicure Assortment, a Pedicure, Hand and Nail Care Kit, Summer Hair Care Kit, Avon Bag, Body Full Hair Package, Color Extend Hair Package, Matrix for Men, a Summer Feet Package, an Anti Static Round Brush and a basket filled with necessary items for delicious barbequing.

Gretchen Quinn kicked off the auction with a bid on the Doggie Basket and soon a bidding war ensued between yours truly and Gretchen. It was a close race but Gretchen successfully out bid me winning the prize for $75.00. After the Doggie Basket win nothing could stop Gretchen and she eventually went home with the Avon Bag, Pedicure Assortment, Body Full Hair Package, Color Extend Hair Package, Matrix for Men, and the Summer Feet Package giving the HOA a total of $130.00!! Thank you Gretchen your support is greatly appreciated.

Mike Schlegler won the BBQ Basket for $38.00, Christina Chubb won the Hand and Nail Care Kit for $25.00, Deb Gordon won the Summer Hair Care Kit for $22.00, Pam Johnson won the Pedicure for $11.00 and Amy Early won the Anti Static Round Brush for $6.00. Thanks Mike, Christina, Deb, Pam and Amy for your contribution and support!

The HOA would like to thank the following volunteers who spent countless hours planning, preparing and implementing this event and without their efforts the Spring Fling/Doggie Run and Fund Raiser would have never transpired: Beth Lintz, Beth Ehret, Deb Gordon, Pam Johnson, Mike Schlegler, Amy Early, Christina Chub, Jan Schlegler, Nancy Tucci and Christa Wike for the design and assembly of the baskets and kits.
